Kooth is a free, safe, and anonymous digital mental health service commissioned across City and Hackney to support the emotional wellbeing of children and young people aged 11–19. Young people can access it directly—no referral or waiting list required—making it an ideal early intervention or signposting option for professionals working with young people experiencing low to moderate mental health needs.

Overview
Kooth provides online emotional wellbeing and mental health support through:
1.    Text-based counselling with qualified practitioners

2.    Moderated peer support forums

3.    Interactive self-help tools and resources

4.    Regular articles and wellbeing content written by professionals and users

All services are available anonymously, with no need for referral from professionals.


Eligibility criteria

Inclusions

  1. Young people aged 11 to 19 living or attending school in City & Hackney
  2. Particularly helpful for those:
  • Reluctant to engage with face-to-face services
  • Seeking immediate, anonymous emotional support
  • Awaiting assessment or treatment from other services (e.g. CAMHS)
  • Looking for preventative or early intervention support

How to refer

Self-referral

1.    Self-referral only – no professional sign-up required

3.    Select location: “Hackney and the City”

4.    Open 365 days a year with live counselling chat available:

1.    Monday to Friday: 12:00pm – 10:00pm

2.    Saturday and Sunday: 6:00pm – 10:00pm

Young people can use the service on a phone, tablet or computer, and all content is fully moderated and secure.
