This is the first webinar in a 2-series update on eating disorders in children and adolescents, presented by The East London Community Eating Disorder Service for Children & Young People (EL-CEDS-CYP), your local service for Hackney, Tower Hamlets & Newham. In this first session we focus on assessment, delivering an overview of various eating disorder presentations that will add to your knowledge on early warning signs and symptoms of eating disorders; and discuss best practice for initial assessment, immediate support in primary care and how to refer to our service, an important aspect of management particularly as early referral is linked to a better prognosis. This webinar also includes a particular focus on hard-to-spot eating disorders including atypical presentations, cultural and ethnic variations, as well as, identifying which children with “fussy eating” may have an underlying eating disorder.

Whilst this educational webinar aims to enhance your confidence in the assessment of a child/young person with a suspected eating disorder, the second part of this series, which will be held in December 2020, will focus on medical and psychiatric risk assessment and management.

Please note that the case studies in the presentation have been edited out in order to protect patient data and confidentiality.
