This is a past event that took place on Friday, 11th September 2020
The East London Community Eating Disorder Service for Children & Young People (EL-CEDS-CYP), your local service for Hackney, Tower Hamlets & Newham, is delighted to invite you to a 2-series update on eating disorders in children and adolescents. In this first session we will focus on assessment. As such we will be delivering an overview of various eating disorder presentations that will add to your knowledge on early warning signs and symptoms of eating disorders; and discuss best practice for initial assessment, immediate support in primary care and how to refer to our service, an important aspect of management particularly as early referral is linked to a better prognosis. This webinar will include a particular focus on hard-to-spot eating disorders including atypical presentations, cultural and ethnic variations, as well as, identifying which children with “fussy eating” may have an underlying eating disorder. The interactive element to the webinar will facilitate learning and sharing of experiences through discussion of case studies.
Whilst this educational webinar aims to enhance your confidence in the assessment of a child/young person with a suspected eating disorder, the second part of this series, which will be held in December 2020, will focus on medical and psychiatric risk assessment and management.
