Abortion services are free to NHS patients and can be the local service for patients is provided by the Homerton who offer the full range of abortion treatment solutions. Patients can receive early or late abortions with non-surgical and surgical procedures.

  • First appointments can either be face to face or by telephone which will provide advice and counselling if the women is still deciding if abortion is the right choice for them.
  • Milepristone can now lawfully both be taken at home- following a change in legislation - and so some patients will not need to attend in person at all.
  • Services are no longer routinely performing dating scans and only scanning if there is an indication

For patients who choose to be seen outside the local borough the Homerton have commissioned the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) to run their administration who provide alternative sites in addition to the Homerton Hospital.

In addition to the above arrangements NHS London region recently authorised other independent sector providers such as NUPAS and MSI to see all NHS patients as part of choice – the contact details for these are available on their websites.

It is important to remember other providers do not necessarily provide the full range of abortion options at all their sites so women need to understand where their assessment and procedure will take place, so they are fully informed on the choice they are making.
