Fast track cities is an international initiative to end new cases of HIV by 2030. We know that increased testing will be a major contributor to this. Increased HIV testing within primary care will allow us pick up new cases. New cases are being seen outside of the traditional “high risk” groups. 

 Fast track cities would like to improve the quality of care for people living with HIV. BHIVA have produced guidelines in November 2023 based on several cohort studies that suggest overall cardiovascular risk for people living with HIV Is greater than the general population (based on QRISK). Their recommendation is to offer/initiate Statin therapy for people living with HIV over 40 years of age. Many people living within City and Hackney are very stable in regard to their HIV but with an aging population, will be seeing their GP for other conditions/diagnoses. Therefore, trialling a shared care approach with secondary care consultants would allow a more developed relationship with the GP and people living with HIV. I think this is a good starting point for discussion on how to improve care for people living with HIV in primary care and to get feedback from practices within the borough on their thoughts of a shared care model.
