Course Overview

The UK has among the highest rates of illegal drug misuse in the western world and there has been a marked increase in drug treatment in primary care over the last few years.

An increase in poly drug use means treatment is more complex and people who use drugs often have a range of health and social care problems. There is also a significant impact of drug misuse on children, families and communities.

The RCGP Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse Part 1 is an accredited course ideal for GPs working at a generalist level as part of a Shared Care scheme and for those intending to provide treatment to drug users as part of a locally or nationally enhanced service. It is a minimum requirement for any GPs who wish to provide Shared Care in City and Hackney, in keeping with most other CCGs.

This course will help you to:

• Engage individuals in treatment
• Identify harmful and dependent drug taking
• Diagnose severity of drug dependence
• Develop a range of harm reduction strategies
• Understand treatment options to enable the provision of safe and effective care
• Awareness of the current policy context regarding Recovery
• Deliver enhanced services for drug users

The course is delivered in 2 sections and approximates to 9 CDP hours:

2/ Full day of training:

This normally costs £312 but we have some funded places this year as we want to encourage more GPs and Practices to join the Shared Care Scheme in City and Hackney.
