Carers and COVID-19 Vaccinations update
The JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) has included unpaid carers on the vaccination priority list (UK wide) in group 6. GP practices who have registered Carers should be inviting them for vaccination along with other Adults aged 16 to 65 in an at risk group.
Definition of a carer – Those who are in receipt of Carer's Allowance (or an underlying entitlement) or have only recently qualified for Carer's Allowance. Those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill.
We would expect GPs to be in the best place to make a reasonable decision on who is a carer if outside the above definition. Usually people who are caring and living with extremely vulnerable people or attending, with direct contact, to their needs on a regular basis. Further information can be found here.
Note: Paid council registered carers can still be referred as Staff to the HUH service by emailing us at cahccg.chccg-staff-covid-19@nhs.net with the patients details including Name, DOB, ethnicity, post code, mobile number, email address and NHS number.
