Homerton Health Visiting update

Covid-19 Update 10/08/20:  Homerton Health Visiting Service has started to increase its provision for children and families.   The health visitors have started contacting the GP Surgeries and the Children Centres to discuss how best to work together safely in providing services using an appointment based system.  The Service is offering a combination of; home visits, appointments in the community, telephone contact and virtual appointments.  PHE Screening and assessment guidelines for Covid 19 are in place prior to a face to face contact. 

Well baby and breastfeeding clinics 

These are not currently being run as these were drop in facilities. We are however, currently in the process of scoping out the capacity in terms of venues to review our ability to recommence this service with booked appointments

Core Offer

Antenatal Contact

Midwife will remain the key professional leading the antenatal care.  Health visitors will offer a face to face contact for identified vulnerability or those under the public health midwife.

New Birth Visit – 10- 14 days

6-8 week contact

1 year review


2.5 year reviews

 Home visit or clinical contact will be offered using an appointment system, there may be some occasions where a virtual/telephone contact may be used instead following discussion and agreement with the parent.


Families with children moving into the area

Identified vulnerable families – arrange for home visit within 5 days


Universal families should be offered a face to face contact within 10 working days offering relevant advice, support and signposting to appropriate local services based on a family health needs assessment.  a needs assessment


Safeguarding, vulnerable infants, children & families & infants and children with current clinical concerns

These families are a priority for a home contact.The Service will continue to participate remotely in Child Protection Conferences, Core groups, Early Help Meetings, GP link meetings and MDT meetings, follow up of FAST referrals.
