Update on COVID-19 Antibody Testing

Antibody testing available for Patients from Monday

  • From Monday 29th June, GPs can request COVID-19 antibody testing for patients
  • National guidance only recommends offering the test to patients who are already receiving another blood test for a medical reason
  • This is to ensure that practices and the Pathology Lab are not overwhelmed by test requests from healthy patients
  • On tQuest, the test is called: COVID-19 Antibody (For Patients Only)
  • Please input ‘Primary care patient’ in the clinical details when requesting the test
  • Please ensure patients complete the consent form and understand that a positive test does not mean they are immune- click here for the consent form 
  • Whatever the result, patients should continue to observe social distancing and follow government guidance
  • For staff testing, please use ‘COVID-19 Antibody (For Staff Only)’

 Temporary Registration/Indemnity Arrangements for Staff Antibody Testing

  • There were some concerns raised by practices/LMC about whether testing was in line with contracts and covered by indemnity arrangements
  • There will be no contractual action taken in relation to a C&H practice registering staff on a temporary basis for testing purposes
  • The Clinical Negligence Scheme for Coronavirus will provide clinical negligence indemnity cover for staff testing

 Community Pharmacy Testing

  • The NHS is making arrangements to provide antibody testing for Community Pharmacy Staff
  • There are around 500 staff members across City and Hackney
