Virtual Group Consultations in City and Hackney
City & Hackney CCG are developing and testing the use of Virtual Group Consultations (vGCs) to help manage LTCs and to review patients with symptoms of Covid-19. A virtual Group Consultation is similar to a face to face Group Consultation (a one-to-one clinical appointment within a group setting) conducted remotely, over a software platform such as Microsoft Teams. There is enormous scope to use virtual group consultations to deliver remote consulting, whilst also reducing social isolation and creating peer support groups for patients. Never before has there been such a need and opportunity for virtual consultations in the UK to mobilise routine care for our patients
Start planning how to use Virtual Group Consultations in your practice
At this stage in the Covid-19 lockdown, practices are now beginning to shift some of their focus back towards management of chronic conditions, to align with City & Hackney’s LTC strategy, which aims to keep patients out of hospital and prevent services from coming under additional pressure from acute exacerbations of chronic conditions. Virtual GCs have great potential to help deliver excellent patient care, despite social distancing, and are able to be used across a variety of different areas: Chronic disease reviews, mental health, review of Covid-19 symptoms, social prescribing for vulnerable groups. Virtual GCs provide the opportunity for medication reviews, completion of care plans and can count as a Time to Talk consultation.
